Batata Vada / Indian Burger

Indian Burgers!

This is the best way to make Indian burgers (Batata Vada) at home. I got this recipe from my aunt Mythili.


1 big potato
3 tbsp oil
1 green chilli finely chopped
ginger grated 1 inch
Jeera seeds 1/2 tsp
salt to taste
turmeric 1/4 tsp
Besan 1/2 cup
Oil for deep frying
2 burger buns / Pav buns
4 slices cucumber
4 slices tomato
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp garlic chutney / onion chutney

Make a batter with besan, salt and water (consistency like Bajji batter). Keep aside.
Boil potato, mash it lightly. Mix salt, jeera, green chillies, ginger, turmeric and oil to make a firm dough. Take small balls and pat it into the shape of cutlets/ pattis. Dip it in the besan batter. Make sure that each flattened patti gets a good coating. Deep fry till golden brown on both sides.

Toast the buns on a grill. Slit the buns. Spread butter on one side and garlic chutney on the other piece of the bun. Assemble the patti, cucumber slices, tomato slices just like a burger and serve hot!

nice recipe. i havent tried dipping the veg cultlet in besan and frying it.. will try it sometime..
