Ingredients:
Masoor Dal-1 cup
Onion-1 (chopped in thin slices)
Tomato-1 (diced)
Green Chilies -3 (slit in half)
Vegetable/ Canola Oil- 11/2 tbsp
Jeera/cumin seeds-1 tsp
Ginger-1 tsp minced
Garam Masala-1.5 tsp
Turmeric powder/ haldi -1/2 tsp
Chilly powder/ laal mirch - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder/ Dhaniya powder – ½ tsp
Kasoori methi/ Dried fenugreek leaves-1 tsp
Amchoor/ Dried mango powder-1 pinch
Salt –to taste
Procedure:
-Get a pan going on medium heat.
-Pressure cook the dal and mash well.
-In oil, splutter jeera. Add the onion,chillies, ginger and salt. Sauté for about 4 min.
-Add diced tomatoes, turmeric powder and chilly powder. Sauté for another 4 min.
-Add dhaniya powder and garam masala. Let the mixture cook for about 3 min.
-Add mashed dal n stir thoroughly. Add water to bring it to the desired consistency. Let the mixture boil for 5 min.
-Add amchoor and kasoori methi. Check for salt.
-Garnish with fresh chopped coriander.
-Serve hot with Basmati rice or rotis.
This recipe serves 4.
(Dal tends to solidify as it cools. Just add a little water and let it boil for a couple of mins right before you plan to serve. It will be back looking wonderful again!)
